Theft of Motor Vehicle

Dear Resident

Officers are appealing for information following the theft of a vehicle and a subsequent road traffic collision on St Agnells Lane, Hemel Hempstead, on Sunday 5 July 2026.

At approximately 5.36pm, a black Vauxhall Astra Sportive van was reported stolen from the area. A short time later, the vehicle was involved in a collision nearby, which has raised the urgency of this message.

Following the collision, 3 individuals left the scene before police arrived. One person was described as a male with dark hair, wearing dark tracksuit bottoms. Enquiries into the circumstances remain ongoing.

We are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, saw the vehicle prior to the collision, or may have relevant CCTV, doorbell, or dashcam footage.

Tips to prevent vehicle crime:

Ensure you lock doors and shut windows/sunroof when leaving your vehicle unattended.

Always remove keys from the ignition when you are not with the vehicle

When parking, remember to set your immobiliser or alarm or use an approved steering lock or gear lever clamp.

Never leave valuables in your vehicle – not even in the glove box or boot – and keep all possessions out of sight – even coats, sunglasses and carrier bags.

Be aware of your keys. Don’t leave them visible on a windowsill or near to your front door, where they could be “hooked” through the letterbox or a keyless signal can be received by relay devices.

If you have a keyless entry car use a signal blocking bag and consider using additional trackers, steering wheel locks or ghost immobilisers.

Store car ownership documents at home, not in your car.
